Police Officer Trainee

Under the close supervision of the Deputy Chief of Police, performs skilled trades work attending official law enforcement classes through a POST approved Police Academy, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The duties listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Attends formal classes in the basic law enforcement training course at City designated police academy to attain certification as a certified Police Officer.
  • Completes weekly program components as evidenced by academy requirements and passes any related tests and/or examinations.
  • Completes additional required training in emergency vehicle operations, fire arms, first aid, and any other courses required by departmental policies.
  • Participates in mandatory physical fitness training.
  • Continued participation in academy training is subject to adherence to all policies and procedures; any disciplinary action will result in immediate dismissal.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED, minimum age 20.

Valid driver's license free of suspensions or revocations, criminal history investigation, drug screen and physical required.
